How do I measure and design my kitchen?

To get started on measuring, the following points may help for the design of your kitchen space.

Sketch your kitchen space, using wall to wall measurements, like a rectangular shape, including ceiling height. Include and mark on your sketch any door openings, windows, plumbing fixtures, and electrical/venting access points on walls. If you already have an idea of your existing/proposed new location of kitchen appliances and kitchen cabinetry, include these on your sketch. Kitchen design measurements are preferable in mm, not cm.

It’s important to also note in your sketch (refer to example below), your ceiling height, sill height of any windows (distance from the floor to the top of the sill window), door widths, and any electrical/venting access points/other fixtures (and measurements) that may intrude into the kitchen space.

Lastly, when designing your kitchen space, consider your floor types (on concrete slab / wooden floor) and wall construction materials (brick, stud / gyprock). Are you considering moving any walls?
